Heavy

Heavyweight fabric is characterized by its substantial weight and thickness. It possesses a firm hand feel and offers excellent structure and support. This type of fabric is often durable and resistant to wrinkling, making it suitable for garments and home decor requiring longevity.

Note: We have assessed each fabric's weight to the best of our ability, acknowledging that weight alone doesn't always dictate how a fabric will behave. A heavily beaded tulle, for example, may be surprisingly heavy on the scale yet drape and function as a lightweight fabric in a garment. If you would like a more precise weight measurement, we are happy to provide GSM (grams per square meter) upon request, by emailing us at info@fabrics-fabrics.com.

Moderate

Moderate fabric drape is considered the most versatile, as it works well for a wide range of garments. It skims the body without clinging, holds gathers well, creates soft folds and pleats, and strikes a balance between structure and fluidity.

Note: While fabric weight and drape are often related, many factors influence drape. Lightweight fabrics can be stiff and heavy fabrics can drape beautifully. We've categorized fabrics based on their typical properties, but these are just guidelines.

Opaque

Opaque fabric does not allow any visibility of what lies beneath it, providing full coverage and a solid, impenetrable barrier, blocking the transmission of light.

Textured
Intermediate

Intermediate fabrics require a bit more experience and skill to handle. They may have more drape or stretch, fray more easily, or have a looser weave. You might need to use a special tool, or different needles to sew them successfully.

Please note: While we have categorized fabrics based on suggested skill levels, it's important to remember that this is just a guideline. The best way to determine if a fabric is suitable for your skill level is to research its properties and consider your previous sewing experience.

Why Order a Swatch?

We highly encourage ordering swatches before you purchase any fabric yardage in order to get the best sense of color, weight, drape, stretch, and fabrication.

Since most of the fabrics we carry are exclusive limited-stock goods originally produced by luxury fashion brands & mills, we often are not provided with exact fabrication details upon acquiring fabric lots. Therefore, ordering a swatch will answer many of the questions you might have.  Additionally, although we take every step possible to ensure as accurate a color representation as possible, the colors of fabrics cannot be guaranteed as monitor calibration and display settings vary from device to device.

Note: Our swatches are approximately 3 inches x 6 inches in size (excluding solid silks). Our solid silk swatches can vary in size based on our mill’s availability.

Bulk Order Discounts

Discounts on bulk orders are determined by both the volume of yardage and the fabric quality, and are calculated on an individual basis.
