Intricate Floral Embroidered Lurex Threadwork on Cotton Eyelet Voile - Light Olive Green
Lightweight fabric is characterized by its delicate and thin construction. It is often soft to the touch and has a gentle hand feel. Due to its minimal weight, it lacks substantial body and structure. This type of fabric is typically used for garments that require a flowing or airy appearance.
Note: We have assessed each fabric's weight to the best of our ability, acknowledging that weight alone doesn't always dictate how a fabric will behave. A heavily beaded tulle, for example, may be surprisingly heavy on the scale yet drape and function as a lightweight fabric in a garment. If you would like a more precise weight measurement, we are happy to provide GSM (grams per square meter) upon request, by emailing us at info@fabrics-fabrics.com.
Crisp fabric drape is characterized by a slightly stiff, smooth quality that holds its shape well, gathers nicely, and may resist wrinkles. It creates sharp lines, defined folds, and structured silhouettes.
Note: While fabric weight and drape are often related, many factors influence drape. Lightweight fabrics can be stiff and heavy fabrics can drape beautifully. We've categorized fabrics based on their typical properties, but these are just guidelines.
Semi-opaque fabric allows some light to pass through, blurring the details of anything beneath it and often requiring a lining, especially for lighter colors or backlit conditions, to achieve full opacity.
Beginner fabrics are typically stable, forgiving, and easy to handle. They press well, don’t fray easily, and sew smoothly without much shifting or stretching. They are generally opaque and have a tight weave, making them easy to cut and sew accurately. No special tools are needed with beginner fabrics.
Please note: While we have categorized fabrics based on suggested skill levels, it's important to remember that this is just a guideline. The best way to determine if a fabric is suitable for your skill level is to research its properties and consider your previous sewing experience.
